The majority of the 19/20 year olds I know like to spend their time going out to clubs and socialising with their friends... Not me! I probably spend the majority of my spare time in my bedroom watching netflix and if I got invited out I would probably make up a crappy excuse because I'll need to stay home to finish the series I'm currently watching. Netflix has been killing it lately with their selection of their original series and I'm getting to that stage where I'm running out of things to watch, I really wanted to tell you guys about the series that I've been binge watching recently because if I'm being honest, I would love to have someone to speak too about them all.
I only found out about this series last week, the entire first series and half of the second series is available to watch on netflix and I'm slightly ashamed to say that I'm now up to date and I'm currently playing the waiting game until the next episode is aired. I haven't seen any of the films and I don't intend to as the horror/gory genre just terrifies me, you'll think that this is so weird but if I watch someone getting stabbed or impaled or some freaky stuff like that I literally cringe so much that it's like I can feel it, like I'm the one getting murdered or something (dumb right?) I was so hesitant to start watching this but it wasn't until a couple of recommendations from a few of my blogger gals on twitter (kasiebeauty & a few others but I've forgotten who, sorry!) that I actually started feeling left out! Ok, the similarities between Scream and Pretty Little Liars is uncanny, it's the same kind of storyline but it's 100x better! The series is so fast paced and every episode is stressful, exciting and terrifying which is AMAZING, it's everything PLL should be.
ORPHAN BLACK
This has to be one of the weirdest series that I've ever come across but It's definitely one of my all time favourites. The first series starts off by introducing us to Sarah, after witnessing an identical looking strangers suicide at a train station she decides to take her place and steal her identity. It doesn't take her long to realise that the new life she now leads isn't all that it's cracked up to be, many more identical looking strangers keep popping up from all over the place and it finally becomes clear that she is part of some sort of mass cloning organisation. As an ex-performing arts student I must say that Tatiana Maslany deserves a standing ovation or some sort of award for her acting, she plays all of the clones herself, she gives them each their own personality and style and I have to admit that I sometimes forget that they're all played by one person! All 5 seasons are available to watch on Netflix and I can guarantee you that you will be hooked after the first episode, there is never a dull moment throughout the entire series and if you don't believe me then I recommend you watch some of the trailers!
JESSICA JONES
I've been a fan of the Marvel franchise for such a long time now and because of this I couldn't contain my excitement to hear that Netflix were producing their own series for the franchise. It focuses on Jessica Jones (duh?) who is one of the darker characters from the Marvel comics, she develops the powers of super human strength and flight (sort of) after being involved in a car accident which killed both of her parents. After quitting the life of a superhero she starts up her own P.I agency which leads her to meet other people with peculiar powers and most importantly, a man named Kilgrave. I completely understand if the whole superhero thing isn't for you but it's completely different to the movie franchise. Did I mention that David Tennant is in it? I didn't? Oh, silly me! If you're like me and you stopped watching Doctor Who when David Tennant left then this series is perfect for those who just want to witness the funny, sarcastic David that we love.
(btw - I now fancy him more than I ever had and if you've already watched the series then you will know that I'm weird to think this...)
IZOMBIE
I have to admit that anything that my girl Tay from tmaemakeup recommends to me I simply end up obsessing over it! Obviously this series is about zombies, but not in the way that you see them on The Walking Dead or films such as Zombieland. It's about a women named Olivia Moore who attends a drug fuelled party which somehow turns the majority of the guests into brain eating cannibals (I think it's pretty obvious that she ends up being bitten and turns into a zombie herself...) She gets herself a job in the morgue where she eats the brains of the dead, after experiencing some personality changes and seeing the memories from the dead the police find her useful and use her 'physic powers' to solve crimes. It's simply Bones (another great series) with a zombie twist! It's incredibly funny and enjoyable to watch and I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new series to watch.
THE UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHIDMT
This has the most catchiest (slightly annoying) theme tune and not gunna lie, I love it. It's not like any of the other series that I've watched before, it's happy, chirpy and light and ridiculously easy to watch. I'm going to try and not give any spoilers away but it basically follows the life of a 30 year old woman who hasn't exactly had a 'normal' upbringing, she must learn the basics of life alongside the weirdest set of characters I've ever seen! I managed to finish both series in 2 days and I think I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms, it's just so addictive and I cannot wait until the third series comes out.
JANE THE VIRGIN
I kept seeing Jane The Virgin pop up everywhere, everyone was talking about it and not gunna lie but it didn't appeal to me at all. I thought it was going to be the classic story of a girl in her teens who got pregnant after losing her virginity and the storyline would lead onto something crappy and boring like how she learns to love herself and grow up a bit. It wasn't until my gal Tay from tmaemakeup told me I was completely wrong. lemme tell you something, it's not anything like I expected. I would say it's a mix of like Ugly Betty crossed with Desperate housewives? The storylines are interesting and fast moving and you really get to understand the characters. The series has this amazing novella style feel to it and If I start to try and explain the very first episode it will just ruin it for you as it's so crucial to how the rest of the series pans out!
This post has taken me a good 2 weeks to write! I found it so hard to try and express my love for the series I've chosen without ruining the storylines for you. If I've convinced you to start watching any of these series then please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of it so far! I would love to know your thoughts!
